Betty Brackenbury, 78, of Hamilton, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at her home in Hamilton, Illinois.
Betty was born on September 12, 1942, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of George and Emily (Allen) Kruckow. On October 21, 1967, she was united in marriage to Harry Paul Brackenbury, Sr., in Harvey, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2004. She then married Raymond Cady, and they later divorced but remained best friends all through life. Betty graduated from Keokuk High School and went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Iowa Wesleyan University. She was employed as an administrator at several area nursing homes throughout her working career. Betty was a member of Healing Streams Church in Keokuk and served as their song leader for many years. Her entire life revolved around her faith, and if the church doors were open, she was there, worshipping and serving. She enjoyed God’s creation in her flower gardens, but most importantly, she loved her family dearly.
Betty is survived by two sons: Harry Paul (Kathie) Brackenbury, Jr., of Keokuk and Terry James (Deborah) Brackenbury of Hamilton; three grandchildren: Andrew, Emma and Sophia Brackenbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry; and two sisters: Audrey and Janet.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, June 4, 2021, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk, with burial following at Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 am until noon on Friday at the funeral home directly before the service.
Memorials may be directed to Healing Streams Church in Keokuk.
