David L. Hoyt, 77, of Keokuk, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
David was born on December 15, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Vernon Earl and Genevieve Olive (Varner) Hoyt. He attended Keokuk High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Military. He later worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad. In his younger years, David was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing every chance he got. He was a talented singer and guitarist, and loved entertaining the people around him. David always knew how to have fun, and his ornery personality and great sense of humor always made him the life of the party.
David is survived by three daughters: Georgina Hoyt of Wayland, Missouri, Dawn Hoyt and Kelly Hoyt, both of Fort Madison, Iowa; three grandchildren: Colby Jo Pilkington, TJ LeMatty and TY LeMatty; his sister Cindy Colwell of Alexandria, Missouri; his brother Mark Hoyt of Keokuk; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his step-father George “Bud” Kleinert and two brothers: Vernie and Bill Hoyt.
David’s life will be celebrated with a private graveside service at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. Military funeral honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post 41 and the United States Army.
