Dorothy R. Barnes

Dorothy Rosalie Barnes, age 91, of Keokuk, passed away on January 27, 2022 at the Montrose Health Center in Montrose, Iowa. She was born May 4, 1930 in Keokuk to Earl and Frances Barnes.

Dorothy shared her love through cooking and sewing. She baked and delivered holiday themed frosted sugar cookies to local Veteran and nursing homes and sewed lap blankets for Veteran homes. She was famous for her homemade noodles which she made regularly to give as a gift to family and friends.

Dorothy worked in the Dietary Department at Graham Hospital and the Heritage Center where she was known for the tasty meals she planned and cooked with many asking her to return after she retired.  She was also a long-time member of the American Legion Lady's Auxiliary and volunteered regularly.

Dorothy is survived by many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Oakland Cemetery, 1802 Carroll Street, Keokuk. All friends and family are invited to attend. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at a later date. Dorothy specifically requested no flowers; in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Keokuk American Legion Lady's Auxiliary or to the charity of choice.
