Ina "Mary" (Baskett) Young

Ina “Mary” Young, 84, of Keokuk, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Mary was born on April 16, 1939, in Macon County, Missouri, the daughter of Olen Francis and Nellie (Zeigler) Baskett. In 1957, she graduated from high school in Ottumwa, Iowa, and on December 26, 1961, she was united in marriage to Jesse Earl Young, Jr., in Ottumwa. He survives.

Mary was employed in her younger years at Larry Daggs Insurance as a secretary, but her top priority was always her family. She loved spending her free time solving crossword puzzles, sewing, crocheting, and painting. She had a quick wit and loved children. When her children and grandchildren were involved in band and sports, she never missed a performance or game. She enjoyed attending car shows throughout the area with her husband.

Mary is survived by her husband Jesse Earl Young, Jr., of Keokuk; two daughters: Rena (Bruce) Mackie of Keokuk and Tandra (Lester) Flaherty of Dixon; two grandchildren: Brett and Sarah Mackie, both of Keokuk; her sister Irene Weber of Kirksville, Missouri; and three brothers: Isaac Baskett of Ottumwa, Iowa, Ira Baskett of Tempe, Arizona, and Imon Baskett of Ottumwa, Iowa. Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ival Snyder and Iris Koch; and three brothers: Ivan, Gene and Dale Baskett.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk, Iowa, with burial to follow at Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or River Hills Village for Memory Lane.
