Judy Rae (Carlton) Wright-Mays

Judy Rae (Carlton) Wright-Mays, 66, of Keokuk, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Mississippi Valley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Keokuk.

Judy Rae Carlton was born in Peoria, Illinois to James R. Carlton and Jean Marie (Budzinski) Carlton on September 12, 1956.

After the death of her father in 1967, Judy and her family moved to various towns in Ohio, Indiana, New York and Pennsylvania before moving too Keokuk, Iowa in 1978.

Judy loved to crochet, play Scrabble, cook/make candy, and to travel.  She also loved researching her family tree and loved animals, especially her two dogs Scooter & Lucky.

Judy worked at Pinnacle (formerly Dial Corporation) until her retirement.  She enjoyed preparing taxes for other people.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Keokuk.

Judy married LeRoy Mays on September 27, 2002.

The last few years Judy resided at Mississippi Valley Rehab Center in Keokuk which provided exemplary care for Judy.

Judy is survived by her husband Leroy Mays, brother James (Sue) Carlton, sisters Linda Sue (David) Mullen and Jan Carlton (Carl Sistern). Nephew Richard (Meg) Gobart, two grandnieces Emma & Lily Gobart.   Niece Jessica (Mitch) Workman one grandniece Riley & one grandnephew William Workman.  A step-son, Michael Mays and his wife Lynn and their children.  Judy had an extended family that comprised of honorary son Joseph Walker and daughter in law Meghan Flaherty. Several honorary grandchildren which she cherished Abigail, JoNa, Jayden, Landon & Hayley.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, many aunts & uncles including her two dogs Scooter & Lucky.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 31, 2023, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk. A private family burial will follow at a later date.

Memorials may be made to PAWS Animal Shelter in Fort Madison, Iowa.
