Sandra (Steele) Briggs

Sandra Briggs, 77, of Keokuk, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Blessing Hospital in Keokuk.

Sandra was born on May 26, 1944, in Keokuk, the daughter of Russell and Alma Cady Steele. On July 20, 1968, she was united in marriage to her husband of fifty-three years, Robert “Bob”  Briggs. Bob survives.

Sandra retired from Eagle Summit to open Grandma Sandy’s Little Loveable Christian Day Care. She was a member of First Christian Church in Keokuk, where she sang in the choir and taught “The King’s Kids” Sunday School. Every baby born at the church received a Christmas stocking made by Sandra. Her entire life revolved around her family and her church family.

Sandra is survived by her husband Bob of Keokuk; her daughter Brenda Best of Keokuk; ten grandchildren: Tiffany McKinna (Charlie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sean Best of Pennsylvania, Chelsi Huppert (Peter) of Keokuk, Lydia Best of Keokuk, Caleb Best (Katlyn) of Keokuk; Lexie Best (Quay) of Keokuk, Alex Best of Keokuk, Landan Best of Keokuk, Ashlea Tadlock (Carl) of Warsaw, and Cody Briggs of Salem, Iowa; ten great-grandchildren: Devin, Dakota, Jacoby, Robert, Padraic, Carson, Tyler, Oliver, Kaynian, and Dixie; and two siblings: Mildred Wagner and Leland Steele, both Keokuk. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, cousins, foster grandchildren and anyone that called her “Grandma Sandy”.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents; her son Robert Briggs; and six siblings: Chuck, Junior, Liz, Esther, Dick and Lois.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk, with burial to follow at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 7 pm, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 pm.

Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church or to the family in care of Robert Briggs for funeral expenses.
